Dichotomy of Man

Originally inspired by the poem Monster

Feathers and claws scrabble in the dark.

The sun is a warm distraction

but I am blind to my heaven

and words hit a dark wall,

erected by the king.

I close my eyes

And the words spring…

my soul drags itself from beneath the pot of gold

to weave an exit.

It is a dream and here, my diamond thought hangs

my button, pushed tenderly, brings breath…

my skin stretches

my ladder unravels

find your own way pilgrim…my hand has turned,

to earth

now

sparks and flashes force a rain of little pebbles

like droplets on the ocean…

if only the whale hears my prayer, do I still exist?

my words have hit the king

who pockets them and prepares their return.

I cry in the night

my fingers reach for the sky and moonlight

sitting on tips like points of knife

sharp and beautiful

Am I a wasted thing,

what can quench my thirst for all I need?

I want more

my tongue melts

into light on dark pavement

surrounded by opinions

accosted by adult mouths

baby noise

My shell is tough but not indomitable

I am one of 7 billion answers

My conviction cripples me

In my defeat I find my wings

I

an opulent monster,

misunderstood,

in my red riding hood…

I give in to the dichotomy and

shrug

like silk it slides and gathers

a bloody mess

a puddle

of love

  1. Like this one very much, … soul searching, love seems seperate like the grains of sand upon a beach..yet together we are whole.

God’s light is your other wing…so you can then fly. Very thought provoking! 🙂 TWEETED!

    1. THANKS and that is it you’ve hit it…i guess it is in the title but what you say is true…we have a choice, thats the beauty and ultimately we will choose the light but until then we get freedom of experience (if you can call it freedom)

  2. I read the poem “Monster” before reading this and I have to say even though there’s also loneliness in this poem, nature seems to provide a way out. I love so many of these lines, but the one that struck the most is “I am one of the 7 billion answers”, we always forget that we are just one of these people searching, crying, hoping and even though it doesn’t get any easier, it is “In my defeat that I find my wings”. Thanks for this!

    1. Thank YOU for taking the time to read, and absorb it.You are exactly right, I believe that there is a way through loneliness and it is in the remembering that we are no bigger smaller better or worse than any other but a simple piece of the puzzle…..
