Pure Constellations

a response to Rainer Maria Rilke’s Duino Elegies  below is the third of ten poems.

cloaked in dirt

stirred by ozone

I am a chorus of stars

a clarity of pulsing tone

old kings may issue from golden tombs

lit by the fire of pure constellations

faded ink may roar bloody fear

but i am only

and glass planets circle me

there is nothing here in this toy kingdom

in this smelter for colour

nothing but a

fragrant  exhalation.
